Twist angle dependent interlayer transfer of valley polarization from excitons to free charge carriers in WSe2/MoSe2 heterobilayers

چکیده
Abstract Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted much attention in the fields of valley- and spintronics due to their property forming valley-polarized excitons when illuminated by circularly polarized light. In TMD-heterostructures it was shown that these electron-hole pairs can scatter into interlayer exciton states, which exhibit long lifetimes a twist-angle dependence. However, question how create valley polarization free charge carriers heterostructures after selective optical excitation is unexplored, despite its relevance for opto-electronic devices. Here, we identify an transfer mechanism twisted WSe 2 /MoSe heterobilayers transfers from MoSe with up 12 ns. This most efficient at large twist angles, whereas are surprisingly short small occurrence excitons.

Anomalous Light Cones and Valley Optical Selection Rules of Interlayer Excitons in Twisted Heterobilayers.
We show that, because of the inevitable twist and lattice mismatch in heterobilayers of transition metal dichalcogenides, interlayer excitons have sixfold degenerate light cones anomalously located at finite velocities on the parabolic energy dispersion. The photon emissions at each light cone are elliptically polarized, with the major axis locked to the direction of exciton velocity, and helic...
متن کاملNonradiative Recombination of Excitons in Carbon Nanotubes Mediated by Free Charge Carriers
Free electrons or holes can mediate the nonradiative recombination of excitons in carbon nanotubes. Kinematic constraints arising from the quasi-one-dimensional nature of excitons and charge carriers lead to a thermal activation barrier for the process. However, a model calculation suggests that the rate of recombination mediated by a free electron is the same order of magnitude as that of two-...
متن کاملHigh energetic excitons in carbon nanotubes directly probe charge-carriers
Theory predicts peculiar features for excited-state dynamics in one dimension (1D) that are difficult to be observed experimentally. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are an excellent approximation to 1D quantum confinement, due to their very high aspect ratio and low density of defects. Here we use ultrafast optical spectroscopy to probe photogenerated charge-carriers in (6,5) semiconduct...

Van der Waals heterostructures formed by two different monolayer semiconductors have emerged as a promising platform for new optoelectronic and spin/valleytronic applications. In addition to its atomically thin nature, a two-dimensional semiconductor heterostructure is distinct from its three-dimensional counterparts due to the unique coupled spin-valley physics of its constituent monolayers. H...
